We have received a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 for the following: 

 

How many times Border and Immigration Agency (or other Home Office) officials have accompanied non-British citizens who have been deported (for whatever reason) to another country, from April 2007 to date.   

 

  1. The number of journeys made.

  2. The countries to which officials have travelled.

  3. The reasons they had to travel.

 

We released the following information on 12 February 2008.

 

  1. Between 1 April 2007 and 31 December 2007, 1999 removals were carried out with escorts at public expense.

  1. These can be found listed at Annex A below

 

  1. Escorts are used** **where a detainee has previously displayed disruptive behaviour or where we believe he will not comply with removal directions; where there is a need for medical escorts; or where it is a requirement of the receiving country.
