Equality and diversity in the CRB

The CRB takes seriously its statutory duty to actively promote equality across the nine protected characteristics as defined by the Equality Act 2010.

This includes race, sexual orientation, sex, religion or belief, gender reassignment, age, disability, pregnancy/maternity and being married or civil partnership equality groups in their access to the CRB checking service and in the design, review and implementation of CRB business activities (policies, decisions, processes and practices).

This includes ensuring that internal processes relevant to all employees of the CRB actively promote equality of opportunity to all equality groups within the current and prospective workforce of the CRB.

There is a separate duty on the CRB as a public authority to ensure equality of service delivery to Welsh customer groups arising out of the Welsh Language Act 1993.

Transgender applicants

The CRB has a confidential checking process for transgender applicants who do not wish to reveal details of their previous identity to the person who asked them to complete an application form for a CRB check.
