New guidance is now available to assist applicants and countersignatories to complete the CRB application form. This practical guidance replaces the supplement ‘Tips for completing the new application form’ and is intended to reduce the most common errors.

The new applicant guidance provides general rules for applicants from how to record current and previous names and address history through to returning the completed form.

The countersignatory guidance supports this guidance and will assist countersignatories, by providing some general rules about checking an applicant’s identity, the level of check to apply for and checking the form.

If you are a countersignatory, remember that it is your responsibility to ensure that all sections of the application form (including sections completed by the applicant) are completed correctly.  Any errors on the application form will delay the processing of a CRB check.

The countersignatory guidance and applicant guidance is available to view or download from our guidance section.

Further information about completing the CRB application form for applicants is available on the Directgov website, while countersignatories will find more details on the Business Link website.
