Independent Prescribing of Controlled Drugs by Nurse and Pharmacist Independent Prescribers

This consultation paper is about the proposal to expand the range of Controlled Drugs that can be prescribed independently by Nurse Independent Prescribers and to enable Pharmacist Independent Prescribers to independently prescribe Controlled Drugs.

It has been drawn up by the Home Office in consultation with the Department of Health as well as the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD).  The reason for this consultation is that although the Home Office holds the enabling legislation, the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001, the changes being proposed are a product of the Department of Health’s policy on Nurse and Pharmacist prescribing.

This consultation is also available for downloading from the Department of Health website.
