Security guards at sports and other events and the Private Security Industry Act 2001
The Private Security Industry Act 2001 (the 2001 Act) provides for the licensing by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) of individuals who carry out a number of security activities. Issues have been raised about the application of the 2001 Act to the security guards at sports and events sector.
This RIA considers the options for resolving confusion and concerns in respect of the 2001 Act as it applies to the sports and events sector. It sets out the Government’s preferred option for moving forward and a framework for achieving this.
