Home Office Science and Innovation Strategy (2005 - 2008)

The purpose of the Home Office Science and Innovation Strategy (2005-2008) is to ensure we use science, technology and research to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of Home Office work.

The strategy provides an overview of current and future scientific capabilities, highlighting the breadth of knowledge and skills we are able to boast and the effective links we have developed between government departments, industry and the academic scientific community. It also highlights the steps being taken to ensure that the science undertaken by the Home Office is of high quality and is fit for purpose at all stages from research to operational deployment.

The strategy provides an integrated approach to managing investment in science and research.  It includes a central mechanism for science planning, quality assurance and horizon scanning as well as cross-departmental links and the measures being undertaken to increase quality and flexibility.

The Science and Innovation Strategy was launched by Andy Burnham, Home Office Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Nationality on November 22 at the Home Office Scientific Development Branch.
