Securing the UK Border: Our vision for the future
This document details plans for the future of border control in the UK. It explains that border control can no longer just be a fixed line on a map. Instead, using new technology - particularly biometrics - along with new approaches to managing risk and intelligence, we can create a new offshore line of defence, checking individuals before they leave their home countries, and verifying their identity through each phase of their journey.
The aim is to make legitimate travel easier, yet prevent those who might cause us harm from travelling here. This approach requires coordinated support of government, international partners and industry.
This strategy is part of the radical reform of the UK immigration system begun last July.
