A new deal for victims and witnesses - National strategy to deliver improved services

This strategy sets out how the Government plans to ensure that victims and witnesses of crime get a better deal than they do now. The criminal justice system itself must become much more attuned to the needs of victims and witnesses, but this strategy also recognises that those needs extend beyond what the criminal justice system can offer on its own. Public confidence in the criminal justice system is low, and too few offenders are brought to justice. The need to improve performance in both these areas is reflected in two of the overarching Public Service Agreement targets for the criminal justice departments. Improving services to victims and witnesses is key to delivering both these targets.
