Home Office performance standards and test protocols for radiological equipment

As part of government’s drive to better engage with industry we have been reviewing how we collate our ideas for radiological detection equipment.

Details

As part of government’s drive to better engage with industry we have been reviewing how we collate our ideas for radiological detection equipment. Following consultation with industry, we have produced Home Office performance standards and test protocols for radiological equipment.

The purpose of the standards is to ensure current best measurement capability across a range of radiological equipment and provide a national benchmark against which equipment can be assessed. In addition they have been designed with international standards in mind in order to minimise any additional cost and to prevent duplication.

The standards establish technical performance criteria against which radiological equipment can be assessed as well as the test methodologies to be used. A second element of this document aims to stimulate future development of radiological equipment by outlining ‘desirable’ requirements.

Manufacturers and suppliers are therefore encouraged to carry out their own testing to the standards and invited to submit their test results to the Home Office Scientific Development Branch (HOSDB) either electronically (RNStandardsEnquiries@homeoffice.gov.uk) or by hard submission to:

HOSDB
RN Standards
CBRNE Sector
Sandridge
St Albans
Herts
AL4 9HQ

In particular they should highlight where the instrument:

  • meets the minimum requirements
  • meets the stretching requirements
  • meets any other standards or criteria

This information will then be held and drawn upon for decisions on future government procurements or testing. Please note that meeting the outlined criteria will not guarantee procurement.
