Have your say on policing

I think that crime and anti-social behaviour is one of the issues that we all mind about most, particularly in our local areas. And that's why we've set out really radical proposals for reform to make our police forces more accountable to local communities, answering to the people rather than bureaucrats here in the Home Office by directly electing police and crime comissioners to hold the police to account.

But also at the same time reforms that will strengthen our national response to policing and dealing with crimes where we need really effctive measures at the regional and national level. These are really exciting and important changes that we want to put in part in our police and social responsibility bill later this year - and we're consulting on them.

So we really want to hear from people. We want to hear from the public, we want to hear from police professionals about how they think these reforms can work for them, ideas to improve them, different ideas about how to enhance police accountability and I hope people will get engaged.
