Details

Between January and March the Home Office held a series of police and crime commissioner (PCC) partner events, led by senior policy officials, that were designed to inform local planning and preparations for the transition to PCCs.

The events were split into three sessions, a police and local authority leaders’ seminar, a scrutiny workshop and a partnership workshop.

Two presentations were used in each of the workshops.

Presentation 1: scrutiny workshop

The session provided the opportunity to:

  • consider local authorities’ role in establishing police and crime panels, the requirement for setting them up and membership
  • examine the powers and role of the panels
  • consider how complaints will be dealt with

Presentation 2: partnership workshop

The session provided the opportunity to:

  • consider how partners may work together to prepare for the incoming  PCC
  • understand the role of the PCC and what legal powers he/she will have
  • the links and relationships between PCCs and partners and what the reciprocal duty to cooperate means
  • learn about the PCC’s commissioning role and explore what this might mean at a local level for CSPs, YOTs, drugs and alcohol teams, health services and offender management

The presentations are available to download below as microsoft powerpoint files. You can also find out more about PCCs on our police and crime commissioner pages.
