Anti-social and other problem behaviours among young children: findings from the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children - RDS OLR 02/08

This volume reports on the findings of two studies based on the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children; a large-scale longitudinal survey.

The first study explores patterns of involvement in anti-social and other problem behaviours among young children at age 8 ½ and then again when aged 10 ½.  The findings highlight the importance of early intervention to tackle individual and family factors, particularly those associated with cognitive and behavioural development.

The second study goes on to examine the characteristics associated with resilience in young children (at age 10 ½ ) who are deemed to be ‘at risk’ of involvement in anti-social and other problem behaviours. A number of factors were highlighted as being important in preventing early onset of anti-social/ problem behaviour.
