Scientific Procedures on Living Animals We collect details of all scientific procedures performed on living animals. This informs the development of policies on animal use in scientific work. We collect this information from licensees who perform or supervise these procedures under the provisions of section 21 of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986. Statistics of Scientific Procedures on Living Animals: Great Britain is published annually by the Stationery Office. The information is of value to the scientific community, animal welfare organisations and the general public. The publication contains comprehensive tables detailing species of animals used, and the nature, reason and purpose of procedures started during that year.
