FOI 6089
We have received a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 for the following:

Request for further details regarding the statistics published in the Home Office command paper Control of Immigration - Statistics United Kingdom 2005 (Cm 6904).
- How many applications for settlement (ILR) in the UK were received by the Home Office during 2006 (or whatever the most recent year).
- Of those applications ;
- How many were granted settlement
- How many were refused settlement - grouped by the reason the application was refused
- How many were still awaiting a decision when the statistics were taken

We released the following information on: 19th March 2007
Table 1 shows the number of Non-asylum Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) applications received Jan 2006 to Dec 2006.

Table 2 shows the numbers of grants, refusals and other[1] of the Non-asylum ILR cases received in table 1.

Table 3 shows the numbers of cases yet to be decided, of the Non-asylum ILR cases received in 2006.

In addition, a breakdown of the reasons for refusal of the Non-asylum ILR cases received in 2006 grouped by their major headings have been included. The reasons for refusals have been grouped as shown in the Immigration and Nationality Directorate Case Information Database; it is not possible to break this down further as this would require investigation at individual case level at disproportionate cost.

The enquiry referred to the 2005 Control of Immigration Statistics Command Paper. The data being provided for 2006 is not directly comparable with those in the Command Paper sections 4 and 5. Command Paper settlement data are not cohort; decisions may relate to applications made in earlier years. Settlement data in section 5 also include dependants and asylum-related settlement.

All tables can be viewed on the attach PDF document.
